Catalysts For Change

5th Fruit of Spirit

1) Kindness

In our Covid World,

we need kindness today. We live in an un-kind society, where people: -destroy  -steal -hurt one another -act selfishly -hoard toilet paper Sin brought all of this into world. As humans, we are self-centered people. We do what is best for us & have little regard for others. The world, today, needs kindness A few weeks ago, Mari bought Camden a toy compass. He discovered that compass  always points to True North. From that, you can: -determine your way -never get lost The Bible is our compass God is our True North He never deviates He always points up Most people aren’t willing to use compass,  until they get lost. When you're lost,  -you lose the pride -humility sets in You’re cold & hungry You want to get out of the woods. All of a sudden,  the compass becomes your guide. True North means something to you. That’s what happens to us. When we lay our pride aside, God shows us where to go. When we see our sin, We realize how patient & kind  He’s been with us. 2) Romans 2:4  Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance? For years,  -He’s been trying to get us to repent. -He’s been trying to show us a better way. When that reality hits us,  we realize HOW kind He’s been. 3) Romans 11:22  Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God: sternness to those who fell, but kindness to you, provided that you continue in his kindness. Otherwise, you also will be cut off. Kindness is a lifestyle  that Christians are to adopt. It’s part of WHO He is How He wants us to live. 4) 1 Corinthians 13:4  Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  Like patience, kindness is closely tied to love. You cannot love someone  & be mean to them. Through your kindness,  you show love. By nature, humans are not kind people. That’s where the Holy Spirit  Does His work He convicts us: -when we slander someone -behave maliciously We feel it. We feel His conviction. 5) Eph 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Kindness is a fruit of Spirit, But it requires proactivity on our part. 6) 31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. "Getting rid" require us to ACT In next verse, we see that Kindness also requires action 7) 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Kindness doesn’t just happen, We have to initiate it. 8) Mt 5:38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth. 39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. 40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. 41 If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you. Being kind requires: -forethought -determination -action Just because it’s a Fruit of Spirit,  doesn’t mean that He does all the work. We have to do our part. 9) Col 3:12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. This is our spiritual clothing…. We have to put it on. When others see us,  this is what they are to see. Next, he tells us  How to show our kindness 10) Col 3:13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. If we want to be a united church, We have to be a kind & forgiving church. That’s where your faith becomes REAL. We’re doing it because, His loving kindness has had  THAT KING OF IMPACT on us. 11) 1 Jn 4:19 We love because he first loved us. 20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. 21 And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister. John talks about loving  Brothers & Sisters in Jesus (That’s easy) What about your enemies? What about those people who hate you? 12) Lk 6:32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. 35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. You are to be God’s catalyst for kindness. Loving our enemies is The ultimate kindness. If God is ever going to change them,  you’ve got to be part of it. Your enemies irritate you & expect retaliation in return. When you do something kind,  they don’t know what to do. The Holy Spirit can help you. He’s here to: -Encourage you to do right thing -Help you perform random acts of kindness Your enemies are God’s creation,  just like you are. He wants them to repent  & change. You can possibly make a  difference in them. But even if you don’t,  you get God’s blessing on you. 13) Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.- Mt 5:9

Matters of the Heart

Forgiveness is a concept that Jesus frequently discussed. Yet, it’s one of the hardest teachings for us to accept. In Jesus’ time on earth, Rabbis taught  that you should forgive 3 times. Peter, wan
